Fox developing Multiple Man film with James Franco eyed to star

James Franco Multiple Man X-Men

Thanks to the successes of DEADPOOL and LOGAN, it seems that Twentieth Century Fox is growing their X-MEN franchise in new and delightful ways. Not every sequel and spin-off needs to feel like a stylistic copy of what has come before, and we've got some hopefully unique and intriguing installments of the X-MEN franchise on the horizon, the newest of which may very well be a film revolving around Multiple Man, a mutant with the ability to create instant duplicates of himself.

Per Deadline, Twentieth Century Fox is looking to developing a Multiple Man film as a vehicle for James Franco, who, obviously, would play the title character. Allan Heinberg (WONDER WOMAN) is on-board to pen the script, and Simon Kinberg (X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX) and James Franco will be producing. The idea apparently came out of another collaboration between Franco and Kinberg, THE HARDY MEN, a Kinberg scripted flick which will find James and Dave Franco playing grown-up versions of the former teen sleuths. Deals for the Multiple Man movie are in the process of being made now, so I'd expect that we'll be hearing more soon. If you'll recall, we've already seen James Madrox, aka Multiple Man, in X-MEN: THE LAST STAND, where he was played by Eric Dane (Grey's Anatomy) and was recruited into Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants.

We'll be getting quite a lot of X-MEN movies next year, starting with Josh Boone's horror-infused THE NEW MUTANTS on April 13, 2018, David Leitch's UNTITLED DEADPOOL SEQUEL on June 1, 2018, and Simon Kinberg's X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX on November 2, 2018. As for future installments of the X-MEN franchise, GAMBIT seems to be finally underway with Gore Verbinski set to direct for a February 14, 2019 release, and there's also an X-FORCE film, a X-23 spin-off, as well as further DEADPOOL and THE NEW MUTANT sequels in the works. Our mutant cup runneth over.

What do you folks think of a James Franco-led Multiple Man film?
