Just last week Jake hit you all with the latest on Ridley Scott’s ALIEN prequels. That intriguing update had Fox eyeing Noomi Rapace, Carey Mulligan and Gemma Arterton for the starring role in the prequel. Well it seems there’s a new name atop their list.

You see “Lost” creator and frequent J.J. Abrams collaborator Damon Lindelof just passed in a new script for the prequel to Fox and according to The New York Times’ Vulture, the studio is crazy about it! I’m talking excited with a capital E! Why? Well because Lindelof’s script doesn’t include any expensive set pieces, which would place the film at a much more reasonable budget than Scott’s previous prediction of around $250 million. Word has it another reason Fox are digging the script is because it could very easily be tagged with a PG-13 rating, which we all know studios love. It seems the script isn’t the only thing that’s changing though…

Apparently Noomi Rapace has relinquished her spot at the top of the short list to star in the film to the gorgeous and insanely talented Natalie Portman. Portman (below) now sits comfortably at the top of the studio’s list to star in the film as a Colonial Marine general.

So what exactly does this new script have in store for us? Unfortunately Fox and company are keeping things very tight lipped… but that’s A-Ok with me. What we do know is that the film will take place 35 years before the original and that Ridley Scott is looking to bring us a ‘really nasty’ flick that goes back to the franchises’ roots as a horror/suspense flick rather than the more action-oriented route it’s recently taken. We’ll also finally find out what happened to the ‘Space Jockey’ discovered with their ribs turned outwards with the sea of xenomorph eggs in the original. Nice!

So what do you guys think? Are you digging the sound of this new script or are you put off by something? Like the PG-13 rating perhaps? Personally I’m a huge fan of “Lost” and place my complete trust in Lindelof. Dare I say I’m excited for this shite even more now?? Be sure to hit us with your own opinions below and keep it here for more on anything and everything ALIEN related as we hear it!
