Fox has ordered the pilot for Minority Report; Plus new plot details

Just a few weeks ago, we learned that a television series based on Steven Spielberg‘s MINORITY REPORT was being developed and now news has come down that FOX has ordered a pilot for the show.

While a full season has not been ordered, FOX did order a “put pilot” for the show which is coming from GODZILLA writer Max Borenstein and produced by Spielberg. A put pilot indicates FOX has agreed to air the first episode regardless of if the series is ordered which likely means we will be getting at least one season of the new MINORITY REPORT. What also makes this project very intriguing is that it is being developed as a direct sequel to the 2002 film rather than a reboot.

Here are some new details on exactly how the plot will unfold.

It is set 10 years after the end of Precrime in DC. One of the three Precogs struggles to lead a “normal” human life, but remains haunted by visions the future, when he meets a detective haunted by her past, who just may help him find a purpose to his gift.

Could this mean there would be room for Tom Cruise‘s character, John Anderton, to appear on the series? Possibly. FOX did not order a second season for their similar future-set cop series ALMOST HUMAN but that show did not benefit from the pedigree MINORITY REPORT carries with it. Hopefully Spielberg’s involvement will boost the quality as this sounds like a pretty damn cool series. Anyone else excited for MINORITY REPORT?
