Frank Marshall says George Lucas is not writing Indy 5 but that Jurassic Park 4 is closer than you think

We heard from Frank Marshall yesterday when he spoke a bit about the potential future of the BOURNE series, but that isn’t the only franchise the famed producer is connected to. In an interview with CraveOnline, Marshall debunked some info regarding the writing of INDIANA JONES 5 as well as given an early report on what’s happening with JURASSIC PARK 4.

According to director Steven Spielberg and star Harrison Ford, George Lucas was supposedly already at work on a follow-up to KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL. But now Marshall is saying that isn’t so!

“As far as I know he’s not writing a fifth Indy. I think he’s thinking about ideas but he’s certainly not writing one. We’d love to keep the series going but again it’s got to be a really good story. They’re hard to do.”

Indeed they are, Frank. I don’t think any of us want to endure another CRYSTAL SKULL.

As for the next JURASSIC PARK, sequel talk has never really amounted to more than that. Today’s not really any different, but the talk seems positive! Here’s Marshall on the fourth film in the series:

“It’s got new life. It’s in development. It’s got new life. I can tell you that that is moving forward.”

See? Positive! But what will the dinosaur adventure be about? Reports over the years – which originally sprang from a totally awesome but bonkers script drafted by scribes William Monahan and John Sayles – indicated that JURASSIC PARK 4’s plot would revolve around weaponized dinosaurs developed by the government. Director Joe Johnston (who is currently attached to the project) said a couple of years ago that that (unfortunately) wouldn’t be the story, and now Marshall is further confirming that.

“‘No, no, that’s another rumor,’ Marshall said about the armed dinosaur idea. ‘That’s not it.'”

Sigh. What’s a man got to do to see velociraptors with shoulder mounted canons?
