It’s official: According to Variety, Frank Miller is penning and helming THE SPIRIT, based on Will Eisner’s comic-book of the same name. Lionsgate will be handling the domestic and U.K. distribution for the flick.
The Spirit is a man who fakes his own death so he can fight crime from the shadows of Central City. His nemesis is the Octopus, who kills those unlucky enough to see his face and is looking to wipe out the entire city.
Um, holy freakin’ shmoly, that sounds pretty rockin’. Although Miller got credit for co-directing SIN CITY, he’ll be sitting in the director’s chair alone on this one.
“Will was a dear friend, a mentor, and translating his vision to the screen will be a labor of love,” Miller said.
Like the previously mentioned MACHETE, the start date of this flick will be heavily influenced by the pre-production of SIN CITY 2. We’ll have to wait around like chuckleheads while Robert Rodriguez decides his next move. (as long as its not SHARKBOY and LAVAGIRL 2, I’m good.)
