After 19 years, Frasier and the gang are back! Today, Paramount+ debuted a Frasier revival trailer featuring new and returning cast members for another round of outrageous comedy. Expected to premiere on Thursday, October 12, the new series “follows Frasier Crane in the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge and an old dream or two to fulfill finally.” In addition to possibly debuting in the middle of the Fall schedule (depending on what happens with the SAG-AFTRA strike), CBS will air two back-to-back episodes on Tuesday, October 17.

The Frasier revival consists of 10 episodes filmed in front of a live audience at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles. Kelsey Grammer returns as the show’s title character, with Jack Cutmore-Scott as Frasier’s son Freddy; Nicholas Lyndhurst as Frasier’s old college compatriot turned university professor Alan; Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, Alan’s colleague and head of the university’s psychology department; Jess Salgueiro as Freddy’s roommate Eve; and Anders Keith as Frasier’s nephew David.

David Hyde Pierce, who played Frasier’s brother, Niles, is not returning. According to Grammer, Pierce was not interested in repeating his performance as the fan-favorite character. However, Pierce told Vulture he was never approached about participating in the revival. “No one ever approached me about it, so it wasn’t something I turned down,” he told the outlet. “But it was also not something I was looking to do … I don’t have a strong feeling that there’s anything more that I can think of that I need to say about the character …I love those characters, but I don’t miss them.” While Pierce is uninterested in returning, he’s not about to rule it out either: “I would never disrespect that in such a way as to say just offhandedly, ‘Oh, no, thanks. I’m not going to do that again.’ It’s too valuable to me. But by the same token, because it’s so valuable to me, I also wouldn’t do it just to do it. And I believe it can be done without me, too — finding new stories to tell, in the same way that Frasier did after Cheers. They didn’t bring along the Cheers gang to make a new show.”

Another actor who won’t return to the show is Jane Leeves, who played Daphne Moon, Frasier’s live-in housekeeper and physical therapist for his father, Martin. Meanwhile, Bebe Neuwirth returns as Frasier’s ex-wife and colleague, Dr. Lilith Sternin. She’ll guest star alongside Peri Gilpin, who plays Frasier’s former radio producer Roz.

Paramount+’s Frasier revival is shaping up to be quite the reunion. With several stars returning, the 10-episode order could become one of the season’s biggest comedies. With countless productions on pause because of the strike, the Frasier revival could arrive at a time when new and exciting content is rare and energizing.
