The Netflix streaming network is teaming with Austrian public broadcaster ORF for an eight-part series called Freud, which will put a fictional twist on the lift of famed psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud.
Marvin Kren will be directing the eight part, German language mini-series, working from scripts he's writing with Stefan Brunner and Benjamin Hessler. In Freud, a young Sigmund Freud will be
using his groundbreaking techniques and teaming up with a medium and a local cop to track a serial killer terrorizing 19th century Vienna.
Netflix will be releasing Freud through their streaming service outside Austria, Belgium, Finland, and Hungary. This marks their first original Austrian series. The show is being executive produced by Heinrich Ambrosch for Austria's Satel Film and Moritz Polter for Germany's Bavaria Fiction.
Casting is underway for the series, which is expected to go into production this fall.
I'm not generally drawn to "cops track a killer" shows, but the additions of not only Freud but also a medium makes this one sound interesting. This isn't the first time the life of Freud has been given a horrific reimagining – the doctor counseled a bloodsucker in THERAPY FOR A VAMPIRE.
