More than forty years ago, a Boy Scouts of America camp in Hardwick Township, New Jersey served as the primary filming location for one of the most popular horror films ever made. That camp is Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco, the film was the 1980 classic Friday the 13th (watch it HERE), and with another Friday the 13th coming up on the calendar, the campground has announced that they will be hosting a screening of Friday the 13th this weekend! The information can be found at CrystalLakeTours.com, and tickets are available for purchase there.

Tours and Events

Friday the 13th will be showing at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco twice this Friday, March 13th, and twice on Saturday, March 14th. Tickets to the screenings will also allow you to participate in “winter lakefront explorations.” This is the first time the camp will be holding an event in March, and tickets are selling fast.

If this is too short notice, don’t worry: the camp will be hosting tours for fans of the film in June, October, and November. The movie will be shown there again on Friday, October 16th and Saturday, October 17th. Right in the heart of spooky season.

The Movie

Directed by Sean S. Cunningham from a screenplay by Victor Miller, the original Friday the 13th has the following synopsis: Crystal Lake’s history of murder doesn’t deter counselors from setting up a summer camp in the woodsy area. Superstitious locals warn against it, but the fresh-faced young people — Jack, Alice, Bill, Marcie, and Ned — pay little heed to the old-timers. Then they find themselves stalked by a brutal killer. As they’re slashed, shot and stabbed, the counselors struggle to stay alive against a merciless opponent.

The film stars Adrienne King, Harry Crosby, Jeannine Taylor, Laurie Bartram, Kevin Bacon, Mark Nelson, Robbi Morgan, Peter Brouwer, Rex Everhart, Ronn Carroll, Walt Gorney, Willie Adams, Debra S. Hayes, Sally Anne Golden, Ari Lehman, and Betsy Palmer. It also features some great effects by Tom Savini.

Friday the 13th is one of my all-time favorite films and kicked off my favorite franchise. I would love to have the chance to watch the movie at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to make it this weekend… but, hopefully, I will someday.
