LARS AND THE REAL GIRL director Craig Gillespie probably wasn’t the sort of guy you expected to update an 80s fave like FRIGHT NIGHT, but he must have proven himself with such satirical horror material.
According to Vulture, Gillespie is now up for the shambling literary parody PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES. The troubled Lionsgate production started out with David O. Russell (THE FIGHTER) writing and directing, but he departed and left behind a script in search of a director.
Mike White (THE SCHOOL OF ROCK) briefly filled the position, while other names once mentioned for the job included David Slade, Mike Newell, Matt Reeves and Neil Marshall.
The zombified Austen remix from writer Seth Grahame-Smith follows heroine Elizabeth Bennet, whose attention is divided between the pompous Mr. Darcy and her own family’s war against hordes of flesh-eating rotters.
While Scarlett Johansson and Bradley Cooper (among others) were supposedly once linked to the project, it seems that no actors are currently attached.
