Just yesterday, we got word that a popular, long-lasting children’s icon (CURIOUS GEORGE) was going to be coming to the big screen (again). Today, we’ve got another one: Babar the Elephant. Only caveat? It’s coming from the producers of the TWILIGHT films.
But really, what could producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey do that might be considered bad? Well, according to Deadline’s Mike Fleming, the film entitled BABAR: THE ADVENTURES OF BADOU, is hoping to be turned into a live-action/CG hybrid… a la GARFIELD, THE CHIPMUNKS and, well, whatever other live-action/CG hybrids you can think of…
Anyway, the plan is to develop a string of family films centered around the Babar book series. For those who have never heard of the elephant, it was first created in France by Jean de Brunhoff in 1931. According to Wikipedia, the first book, Histoire de Babar, “tells of a young elephant… who leaves the jungle, visits a big city, and returns to bring the benefits of civilization to his fellow elephants. Then he comes back and becomes king of the elephant kingdom. He then has children and teaches them valuable lessons.”
