Fruit looks up

When I first saw the creepy anthology film THREE EXTREMES, it was because I was familiar with two of its terrific directors – Takashi Miike, and the awesome Chan-Wook Park. The third was someone named Fruit Chan, who I had never heard of, although the reputation of his entry, DUMPLINGS, proceeded him.

Well, of course like everyone else I was disgusted – and therefor, delighted – by DUMPLINGS, with its whimsical tale of aborted fetuses. I haven’t heard much from Fruit since, but guess what? He’s about to make his English language debut!

The news isn’t all good though, as he’s been assigned a remake of a Japanese horror movie originally directed by Hideo Nakata (the most overrated of the group, in my opinion.). It’s called DON’T LOOK UP, and it’s about a film production in Transylvania that is tainted by an old piece of celluloid containing images of a woman’s murder. Now that sounds kind’ve cool, but I’m going to hold my breath and pray that an R rating is possible and someone from the CW isn’t cast.
