Paddington squares off with Hugh Grant in Paddington 2 trailer

Studio Canal has released the official full-length trailer for the children’s film PADDINGTON 2, based on the popular children’s book series about a cute immigrant bear. What’s most significant about the film is that its predecessor – whose trailers had the look and feel of another soulless cash grab at childhood nostalgia starring an ungainly CGI monstrosity (looking at you PETER RABBIT) – that instead was as charming and disarming as its source material. Let’s hope the sequel can keep that good feeling going.

Anyway, you see the trailer for film embedded above, and here’s the official synopsis:

Settled in with the Brown family, Paddington the bear is a popular member of the community who spreads joy and marmalade wherever he goes. One fine day, he spots a pop-up book in an antique shop — the perfect present for his beloved aunt’s 100th birthday. When a thief steals the prized book, Paddington embarks on an epic quest to unmask the culprit before Aunt Lucy’s big celebration.

Meanwhile, PADDINGTON 2 will charm its way to theaters January 12th.
