Filming is now underway in Bulgaria on GHOSTS OF WAR, a World War II horror story from Eric Bress, co-writer/director of THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT. The film will follow

five battle-hardened American soldiers assigned to hold a French Chateau near the end of World War II. Formerly occupied by the Nazi high command, this respite quickly descends into madness when they encounter a supernatural enemy far more terrifying than anything seen on the battlefield.

As reported last month, one of those five American soldiers is Brenton Thwaites as Chris Goodson, the soldier in command, "a brilliant strategist who is plagued by battle fatigue". Thwaites has since been joined in the cast by Theo Rossi, Skylar Astin, Alan Ritchson, and horror veteran Kyle Gallner (JENNIFER'S BODY, RED STATE, THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUTA NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, The Walking Dead). The only details revealed about these other four soldiers are their names: Kirk, Eugene, Butchie, and Tappert.

Shaun Toub has also signed on to appear in the film as a Mr. Helwig, although it's not clear who Mr. Helwig is. Also on board to co-star in the film is Billy Zane (pictured above), taking on an undisclosed role. Zane will also be serving as an executive producer on the film.

Zane's fellow executive producers are Adrian Jayasinha, Bernard Stewart and Andrew Mann. GHOSTS OF WAR is being produced by D. Todd Shepherd, Shelley Madison, Joe Simpson, and Colleen Camp.

Shepherd was quoted as saying that Bress has created "some truly memorable characters" for this cast to bring to life.

There's still no word on what the "supernatural enemy" is, and that's an important element in figuring out my level of interest in this film. With that said, there are members of this cast who I would watch fight any sort of supernatural enemy, so I guess I'm already locked in to watch GHOSTS OF WAR when it's realized.

In addition to THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT, Bress's previous writing credits include FINAL DESTINATION 2 and THE FINAL DESTINATION.
