INTRO: Based on the new blockbuster
movie of the same name, this one tries to mirror the film’s activities. Grab
a hold of Brendan Fraser and see if you can stop the Asian Mummy from taking
over the world, or some fool thing like that.
GAMEPLAY:
So the gameplay in this game is just truly awful, one of the worst I’ve
played in awhile. I can’t believe this thing has been released and that
people are going to potentially play 60 dollars to play it. This one can be
chalked up to flawed design all around, with frustrations that will make you
smash your controller into the TV screen. Let’s begin with the tutorial
level, shall we? Almost right off the bat, you have a puzzle to solve. The
only problem with this puzzle is that it doesn’t require brains to solve it
but rather intense pattern memorization. Then you have to fight and fight
and fight and fight some more, ad nauseum.
The game tries its best to emulate other decent adventure games like Tomb
Raider, but it doesn’t really succeed. Yes, you’ll hop around from ledges
and solve puzzles, but nothing is new, nothing feels innovative, and nothing
is overly well done. The combat is frustrating at best, because although
melee combat is serviceable, gunplay is an exercise in futility due to an
awful fixed camera. Enemies will shoot you, a lot, and you’ll die a lot.
What kind of a game won’t allow you to control the friggin’ camera!? Boss
battles can be impossible. I guarantee you that there is no way you’ll get
through this game without being frustrated due to poor design or one of many
bugs. It’s just that bad.
Gameplay: 2.5/10
GRAPHICS:
The graphics, well they’re actually not too bad. They’re not great, but
they’re not awful. Textures look decent enough, and characters seem to
manage to look like their counterparts. The bosses are big, and the
environments look okay. The graphics are probably the best part of this one.
Graphics: 6.5/10
AUDIO:
Sound is decent too, with okay voice acting and a good orchestral score.
Sound effects are repetitive and dull, but that should come as a surprise to
no one.
Audio: 6.5/10
FINAL VERDICT:
Like the movie, this game falls way short of expectations. Also like the
movie, if you’re 10 years old you just might be able to see past the flaws
this game has in spades. It isn’t fun, it can be very difficult, it’s
derivative and has Brendan Fraser in it. What more do you need to know to
keep you from playing?
Final Score:
3/10
