Game of Thrones may shoot multiple endings for its series finale

Game of Thrones HBO

Game of Thrones recently wrapped up its penultimate season, setting the stage for what will hopefully be a staggeringly epic six-episode finale. However, if you're hoping to catch wind of just who winds up on the Iron Throne a little early, you should know that David Benioff and D. B. Weiss may be shooting multiple endings for the finale

According to a report by The Morning Call, HBO Programming President Casey Bloys said as much while speaking at Bethlehem’s Moravian College last week.

I know in ‘Game of Thrones,’ the ending, they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that nobody really know what happens. You have to do that on a long show. Because when you’re shooting something, people know. So they’re going to shoot multiple versions so that there’s no real definitive answer until the end.

Entertainment Weekly notes that HBO has neither confirmed nor denied the report, but considering how big of a deal the Game of Thrones finale will be, as well as their unfortunate history with leaks, it wouldn't surprise me. As for how far they're planning to go when it comes to protecting the secrets of the finale, Dan Weiss has said that, "We don’t even want to tell you because if we do then somebody will figure out how to circumvent the things that we’re doing." Production on the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones gets underway in October, which means that the final season may not debut until late 2018 or 2019. D'oh.

Place your bets. When the dust clears, who will be sitting on the Iron Throne?
