After its dominating performance at the box office, news of a sequel to Gareth Edwards’ GODZILLA started swirling as it was announced that a second film was already in the works. At the time, however, we didn’t exactly know if Edwards would return to take the helm. Some big news struck the internet today for the director as THR broke the incredibly huge news that Edwards would follow-up GODZILLA with one of the STAR WARS spinoffs.
Within that news was a sweet little tidbit of info from the site that confirmed that not only would Edwards return for a second film, but a third one as well! They also state that while story ideas do exist, the GODZILLA 2 project is still in early development and does not even have a script.
Well, folks, it looks like we’re going to see what else Edwards has in store with the King of Monsters. What a whirlwind of events for Edwards, man. Going from MONSTERS, a film he shot on a shoe-string budget, to destroying the box office with GODZILLA, and now he’s attached to direct not only a STAR WARS flick but GODZILLA 2 and 3? This is great news for the director and even better news for cinema because he’s one hell of a talented director who can only go up from here.
