Genndy Tartakovsky gets bloody & prehistoric in new trailer for Primal

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Created by Genndy Tartakovsky, Primal centers around a caveman at the dawn of evolution and a dinosaur on the brink of extinction. Bonded by tragedy, this unlikely friendship becomes the only hope of survival in a violent, primordial world. I've loved what we've seen of Primal so far, and Adult Swim has now released a new trailer which gives us an even better look at the prehistoric carnage which the upcoming series has in store.

While speaking with Variety earlier this summer, Genndy Tartakovsky said that Primal will contain no dialogue, instead using its imagery in order to deal with fundamental themes such as disease or hunger. "Forget about the violence and stuff, there’s plenty of that to go around," Tartakovsky explained. "It’s these serious themes. The biggest thing is that we trust the audience. It’s 10 episodes, no dialogue, and some of it’s pretty intense, so we are going to rely on you the audience to understand it and to pay attention." Tartakovsky also compared the series to nature documentaries, where you know not to get too attached to the animals.

You know how when you watch a nature show and you see a polar bear and a seal. The polar bear is cute and charming, and the seal is so cute, but for one to survive it’s gotta eat the other, and it’s horrific. We have an episode like that. We like all the characters in the show but they have to kill each other. It’s primal.

All ten-episodes of Primal will air across five nights on Adult Swim, beginning on October 7, 2019 and running through to October 11, 2019.
