Ghost in the Shell Rupert Sanders Scarlett Johansson

Director Rupert Sanders' live action adaptation of the manga GHOST IN THE SHELL has already caught some early bashing from fans who don't think a new take on the material is necessary and those who disagree with the casting of Scarlett Johansson in the lead role. Whether the film will turn out to be good or bad remains to be seen, but now we have a couple minutes of footage to help form and adjust opinions, as the first official trailer has arrived online and can be seen below.

Johansson plays Major,

a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.

Jonathan Herman and Jamie Moss handled the screenplay adaptation. Johansson's co-stars include Rila Fukushima, Michael Pitt, Pilou Asbæk, Michael Wincott, Juliette Binoche, Beat Takeshi, Kaori Momoi, Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara, and Tuwanda Manyimo.

One thing is for certain, Sanders captured some fantastic imagery for this film, as the trailer is packed with great eye candy. It also features Johansson wearing a very interesting, out-of-the-norm costume into battle, going with a nude coloring rather than the usual black tactical gear. This helps set her Major apart from her Black Widow, and I'm thinking it will have a positive effect on ticket sales as well.

GHOST IN THE SHELL will reach theatres on March 31, 2017. Check out the trailer and see what you think of what the movie has to show us so far:
