Ghostbusters 3 in “suspended animation,” Bill Murray will NEVER do it!

Best news I’ve heard in a good while…

It seems no matter what they dangle in front of Bill Murray – and by they I of course refer to Ivan Reitman, Dan Aykroyd and Columbia – Peter Venkman ain’t strapping the proton pack to his back anytime soon. In fact, not now…NOT EVER! Personally, greedily, I love the decision for reasons expressed many times here at AITH.

Here’s what Aykroyd recently told The Telegraph about GHOSTBUSTERS 3:

“At this point it’s in suspended animation. The studio, the director Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis feel there must be a way to do it, but Bill Murray will not do the movie.

He doesn’t want to be involved. He’s got six kids, houses all over America. He golfs in these tournaments where they pay him to turn up and have a laugh. He’s into this life and living it. I know we’d have a lot of fun [but] I can’t be mad at him. He’s a friend first, a colleague second. We have a deep personal relationship that transcends business and he doesn’t want to know.”

About the possibility of cheating with some lame Murray CG and voice-work:

“We’re not going to do a movie that exploits the franchise. The script has to be perfect. I’m the cheerleader, but I’m only one voice in the matter. It’s a surety that Bill Murray will not do the movie, however there is still interest from the studio.”

Let’s open it up…a debate it seems we’ve been having for the last ten f*cking years. GB3 is just a sad cash grab, Murray knows it, we all know…the principals ought to just move on. Sounds like Aykroyd is slowly doing so:

“I don’t need fame any more. People are less interested in me in terms of celebrity. I’m happy to see a new generation being the media focus. I’m happy my day is done. It’s over.”

The legacy lives on!
