Goonies set for a 25th anniversay Blu-ray release

There are a lot of people who feel like THE GOONIES is surviving solely on nostalgia and isn’t much of a movie. I’m not one of those people. I genuinely love the film and while there is certainly some nostalgia involved, having watched it repeatedly as a kid, I still think the film works separate of that. So I’m excited to hear that GOONIES will finally be making its way to Blu-ray this fall with a big 25th Anniversary edition.

In addition to all the features included on the previous special edition DVD, the Blu-ray will include a new board game, collectible storyboard prints, a 1985 souvenir magazine with behind-the-scenes stories about the actual filming in Astoria, Oregon, including the production design that transformed Astoria into the “Goon Docks,” and a reprint of a 2009 article with updates of the entire cast, as well as producer Steven Spielberg and director Richard Donner.

The new edition will cost a pretty penny though. Be prepared to part with $50 of your hard-earned cash for the Blu-ray and $40 for the DVD edition of the same set. I do wish there were some new features on the discs themselves instead of a board game I’ll probably never play but for a fan of the movies, I’m not sure I can turn down having this film on Blu-ray.
