Censors are funny to me. One reason is simply because over an extended timeline, the free exchange of ideas can’t be stamped out. It’s simply too essential to the human condition. So the censors run around trying to control the uncontrollable, and you have to admit, that’s funny!

In a less esoteric sense, though, they’re funny because the effort they put into banning cetain properties creates a market and demand for those same properties. Take for instance the DVD release of Nacho Cerda’s infamous AFTERMATH/GENESIS from Unearthed Films’. It has been banned from every brick and mortar retailer they have approached to stock it.

Now I certainly understand that horror flicks dealing openly with necrophilia aren’t everybody’s cup of tea, but that’s the point! Carry the stupid thing and not many folks are going to care about seeing it. Go and BAN it however, and it becomes required viewing for any genre fan. The audience will be 10 times larger, if not more, than it ever would have been on its own because censorship got involved.

I know I’ll end up chasing this one down now. It’ll most likely end up as part of a long list of genre pics like I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVEand CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST that my genre life would be full and happy without having seen.

So to all the idiots who want to ban movies to keep people from seeing them, stop doing it. You’ll help your cause best by doing nothing!
