Proving that becoming the fastest-selling XBOX 360 game ever was no fluke (and making Bungie that much more nervous), word from GameDaily has Microsoft’s monster hit GEARS OF WAR thinking sequel plans and then some.
In an interview with Microsoft’s corporate vice president of global marketing, Jeff Bell, Bell describes the success of the game as a “popular culture phenomenon in the making,”. Bell continued, saying that the goal of the recent TV spot for the game was to “establish [main character] Marcus Fenix as the hero of the GEARS OF WAR trilogy. The intention is to create emotional connection with him that is lacking in typical third-person action title marketing.”
Okay, so Microsoft has come flat out. Will there be a sequel? Given the success, most definitely. Two sequels? Microsoft did the ‘no official announcement’ thing, but considering the success GEARS OF WAR has had so far (and the fact that it usurped HALO 2 from the top spot on XBOX Live), then we may just have another trilogy on our hands.
