Gremlins 3: screenwriter reveals return to “horror movie” roots for sequel

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

So a third film in the puppet-heavy, slapstick horror-comedy franchise Gremlins has been rumored for quite some time now. However, talks have been recently heating up in the last few years, and current screenwriter Carl Ellsworth (Disturbia) – who's co-writing with original Gremlins screenwriter Chris Columbus – had this to say about the project:

These little creatures…they’re cold-blooded little murderers, you know? They’re psychotic little creatures that are killing everybody. So that’s where it all started….I tried to preserve the humour, but at the same time, I was starting with the foundation of this being a horror movie, which I was really thrilled about…Gizmo was at the very core of the story; it explored more of the mythology and the history of the Gremlins.

Meanwhile, no start or release date as of yet, but we'll keep you posted! And you'll be able to next see the little killer critters on HBO Max's animated series, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, scheduled for later this year!

So what do you guys think? Fans of the series? If so, looking forward to the return to a darker tone? Either way, sound off below!
