Grim American Reaper

Who knew that singer Sting’s wife had such cool taste?! Ms. Trudie Styler (Sting’s squeeze, right) has a production company called Xingu Films, which will be releasing next summer’s MOON. Said company has also just acquired the rights to a very cool sounding upcoming graphic novel called AMERICAN REAPER created by Pat Mills and Clint Langley. Here’s a big ol’ slice of the plotline:

The story is set in a future where identity theft leads to victims having their minds erased and replaced by those of the elderly rich seeking a second youth or by criminals and terrorists with more sinister motives. A team of special agents, known as Reapers, are formed to track down and terminate those responsible.

That is one far-out freakin’ idea! And I love it! It kind has a much darker BEING JOHN MALKOVICH vibe. Great pick, Mrs. Sting! Here’s what she had to say: “It’s rare for us to sign up to a project based on just a proposal, but the opportunity to work with proven talent like Pat and Clint from such an early stage, on a project with so much potential, was just too good to pass up.”

I do agree, this concept sure is potential-loaded and with a projected budget of $50 million-plus, these REAPERS may have a shot at one sweet life. Though no director or cast has been selected yet, it is confirmed that Mills will be writing the screenplay. Hey, maybe they can get Sting himself to star! He was pretty good in THE BRIDE.

She was in BEING JOHN MALKOVICH.
