Halle Berry to make her directorial debut with Bruised, a martial arts drama

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Like a mighty phoenix rising from the ashes of a Walmart bargain bin, Oscar winning actress Halle Berry is staging quite the comeback as of late. After delivering an endearing and entertaining performance as Ginger for director Matthew Vaughn's KINGSMAN: THE GOLDEN CIRCLE, and signing on to star opposite Keeanu Reeves in filmmaker Chad Stahelski's JOHN WICK: PARABELLUM, it's been announced via Deadline that Berry will be making her directorial debut with BRUISED, an MMA-related action drama.

In addition to helming the upcoming film, Berry is also set to star as Jackie “Justice,” a disgraced MMA fighter who has failed at the one thing she’s ever been good at – fighting. When 6-year-old Manny, the son she walked out on years ago, returns to her doorstep, Jackie has to conquer her own demons, face one of the fiercest rising stars of the MMA world, and ultimately fight to become the mother her child deserves.

Set to pen the screenplay for BRUISED is SWEET SURRENDER scribe Michelle Rosenfarb. Meanwhile, Berry will be re-teaming with John Wick producer Basil Iwanyk of Thunder Road Pictures, who will partner with Entertainment 360 and Linda Gottlieb for the project. Furthermore, Berry will be working side-by-side with the team that led John Wick's fight choreography, so be prepared for some top-notch hand-to-hand action, my friends. Production on BRUISED is set to hit the mats during March of 2019.

While you're waiting for this promising project to kick off, be sure to catch Berry when she stars as Sofia in JOHN WICK: PARABELLUM, which is set to sling bullets and snap necks in theaters beginning on May 17, 2019.
