Halloween Ends is “an appreciation of John Carpenter’s body of work”

David Gordon Green, the director of Halloween 2018 (watch it at THIS LINK) and Halloween Kills (now in theatres and on the Peacock streaming service, read our review HERE), is gearing up to go into production on Halloween Ends, the final entry in his Halloween trilogy, which will begin filming in January. Last month, Green said that John Carpenter, the film’s executive producer and the director of the original Halloween (watch it HERE), was taking a look at the latest draft of the script he wrote with Danny McBride, Chris Bernier, and Paul Brad Logan, and during a recent interview with the Empire Spoiler Special Podcast (as reported by IndieWire), the filmmaker has described Halloween Ends as an appreciation of Carpenter’s body of work.

Green said Halloween Ends will be a “much more intimate movie” than Halloween Kills was.

There’s not a lot of games in it, there’s not a lot of wittiness and retro joy. It’s kind of a coming-of-age film, and it’s a very different tone. And that’s what excited me about it, is to have the three chapters that I’ve been involved in be very different from each other. They are all there to honor Carpenter, but aren’t necessary just emulating him. I sent Carpenter the new draft of Halloween Ends the other night, and I said, ‘If it feels too Christine, let me know.’ For Halloween Ends, it’s just a love of Carpenter, you know. It’s more than just, ‘Hey, here’s a character and a community that you’ve created.’ It’s, ‘Here’s an appreciation of your legendary body of work.'”

It would be interesting to hear how exactly Green thought the Halloween Ends script could have been “too Christine“… He has previously said that there will be a four year time jump between the events of Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends. He has also teased that Kyle Richards could be brought back as Lindsey Wallace. We know for sure that Jamie Lee Curtis is on board to play franchise heroine Laurie Strode one last time, and it’s likely Andi Matichak will be back as Laurie’s granddaughter Allyson.

Halloween Ends is scheduled to reach theatres on October 14, 2022
