Michael Myers returned in a big way in David Gordon Green's Halloween and it was soon announced that the film would be followed by two sequels, Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends. COVID-19 has delayed the release of the first sequel, but that's only given those behind the film more time to build the hype, and that includes franchise creator John Carpenter.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly about the release of his latest album, Lost Themes III: Life After Death, John Carpenter revealed that he's completed scoring Halloween Kills, but said that he hasn't scored Halloween Ends yet as everything is still shut down. Carpenter said that he hopes things get better soon, before teasing his thoughts on Halloween Kills.

It's brilliant. It's the ultimate slasher. I mean, there's nothing more than this one. Wow! Man.

I certainly like the sound of that. John Carpenter has previously teased that the film contains a massive amount of kills, so the "ultimate slasher" title feels appropriate. Halloween Kills director David Gordon Green has said that the sequel is "about the creation of fear," adding that, "It's one thing to be afraid of the Bogey Man, to have someone who might be in the closet, under the bed, creeping around your house… But we wanted to explore next was confusion, misinformation, and paranoia. What happens when fear goes viral? You can’t just stick your head under the covers any more." Green also said that the sequel will be much more action-packed than its predecessor.

When we made the last one we wanted to find a way for someone who’s never seen the original to get up to speed with the story. But this one gets right to the action. It’s very aggressive. It’s more efficient. We wanted it to be an explosive middle before things get streamlined and personal again.

Halloween Kills is slated to hit theaters on October 15, 2021, followed by Halloween Ends on October 14, 2022.
