After years of development, the Halo TV series has finally premiered on Paramount+, and it looks to have set a ratings record in the process. Today, the Paramount streaming series announced that the Halo TV series had set a new record as the service’s most-watched series premiere globally in its first 24 hours.

Paramount didn’t release any numbers related to Halo‘s new record, but the previous milestone was held by Yellowstone prequel 1883 with 4.9 million viewers. “Bringing Halo to life as a streaming series has been one of the most rewarding efforts for Paramount+ to date and we could not be more thrilled at the massive fan response to the series’ debut,” said Tanya Giles, Chief Programming Officer, Paramount+. “Along with our phenomenal partners at Showtime, 343 Industries and Amblin Television, we cannot wait for fans to experience more of this incredible universe.

Halo stars Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief, Earth’s most advanced warrior in the 26th century and the only hope of salvation for a civilization pushed to the brink of destruction by the Covenant, an unstoppable alliance of alien worlds committed to the destruction of humanity. In addition to Schreiber, Halo stars Natasha McElhone, Jen Taylor, Bokeem WoodbineShabana Azmi, Natasha Culzac, Olive Gray, Bentley Kalu, Kate Kennedy, Charlie Murphy, and Danny Sapani. Paramount has great faith in the Halo TV series as they have already renewed it for a second season.

Our own Alex Maidy reviewed Halo earlier this month but wasn’t exactly a fan, saying that the series “emulates everything from The Expanse to The Mandalorian but pales in comparison to both.” Maidy added that he was “expecting a lot more from Halo” but that “the first two episodes of this series feel about as far from the video game as possible while teasing the potential to someday get there. A show like this will only work with character development and lots of narrative exposition, but that only can be forgiven if it is at all interesting.” The first episode of Halo is now streaming on Paramount+.
