Hanna: A brutal Super Bowl trailer reveals first episode post-game air date

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

If you're of the mind that this year's Super Bowl LIII is going to be is going to be an epic display of agility, strategy, and brutality, you might want to stick around after the game for when Amazon makes the first episode of HANNA available for Prime subscribers. Based on director Joe Wright's 2011 dramatic action-thriller starring Saoirse Ronan, Eric Bana, and Cate Blanchett, HANNA is getting its own television series with Esme Creed-Miles set to play the part of an unassuming young woman who in actuality is a lethal killing machine. David Farr, who co-wrote Wright's original feature, will pen the series, alongside Sarah Adina Smith, scribe of THE MIDNIGHT SWIM and BUSTER'S MAL HEART, as well as 2018's UNLOVABLE.

Here's the official synopsis for Amazon Studios' HANNA:

Raised by her father in the Finnish wilderness, teenage Hanna has trained all her life to be the perfect assassin. Her father sends her on a mission, and she stealthily makes her way across Europe while evading agents sent after her by a ruthless operative named Marissa, who once worked with Hanna’s father. As she draws closer to her target, Hanna faces startling revelations about her existence and begins to question her humanity.

In my watching of the trailer, I can already tell that Farr's episodic version of Hanna's journey will introduce new elements to her story, such as giving fans a glimpse at the adept murderer's attempt at having a normal life. Unfortunately for Hanna, it would seem as if she can never truly escape her calling as a resourceful killer, and it will take every harsh moment of training she's ever had to survive.

At the close of the trailer, Amazon reveals that the first episode of the series will be made available for Amazon Prime subscribers directly after the big game, but only for a total of 24 hours. Should you miss the opportunity to watch the "special streaming," you'll have to wait for the series to launch in-full later this year, if you want to get in on the action.
