After bumming around the network for three seasons, HBO has decided to cancel its CRASHING comedy series starring Pete Holmes (FANASTY HOSPITAL, THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS 2). Judd Apatow announced the show's cancellation via an interview spot on Conan on Thursday.
“Well, it’s not really canceled,” Apatow told late night host and THE SIMPSONS alum Conan O’Brien. “We’re just going to stop making it.”
O'Brien then inquired, “What stopped you from making more?” To which Apatow replied, “They told us we should never make any more.” Woof. That's a bit cold, HBO. Remind me not to send you a Christmas card later this year. Also, despite being canceled before the launch of a fourth season, Apatow did share that a CRASHING movie is possible some time down the line.
Created by Holmes, CRASHING centers on a fictionalized version of its star, and chronicles the stand up comedian's pursuit of a career in comedy after parting with his adulterous wife. Sarah Silverman, Jeff Ross, Hannibal Buress, Ron Funches, and Gilbert Gottfried have each had cameos on the show, which Holmes had executive produced alongside Apatow, Judah Miller and Igor Srubshchik.
Following the show's cancellation, Holmes bid CRASHING a fond farewell via his personal Twitter account:

CRASHING will end with the show's Season 3 finale, which is scheduled to air on HBO outlets this Sunday.
