Heathers remake a go!

Last month Winona Ryder was quoted in saying that she was in talks to star in HEATHERS 2–she was quickly shot down by director Michael Lehmann, who said that would never happen, and that Ryder was full of shite (check out the full story HERE). Now it looks like Ryder was onto something, but probably not the something she was hoping for.

According to Variety, 20th Century Fox is developing a contemporary take on HEATHERS, which just another way of saying Fox is remaking the classic Ryder / Christian Slater super dark teen comedy. No sequel, just doing the same damn thing over again… but wait, didn’t they do that already? They just called it MEAN GIRLS instead? Hmmmm….

Oh, but it gets better. Not only is it going to be remade, but it’s going to be remade… as a TV series! That’s right folks, the dark comedy will be adapted for TV by writer Mark Rizzo, with an assist from “Sex and the City” alum Jenny Bicks. Not sure how they can crank 24 some odd episodes out of a concept like teen suicides and killing the popular kids in school, but I suppose they’re out to show me. Yikes.

The original film revolved around Veronica as she navigates a clique of mean girls — all named Heather — and rebels after meeting J.D., the new guy at school. Soon, the Heathers start “accidentally” dying at the hands of Veronica and J.D., who cover up the deaths by faking them as suicides.

Expect more from the TV adaptation / remake / contemporary take of HEATHERS as we hear it!

One of my favorite Heathers, Heather Graham!
