Not inspiring news for those of you (yes, YOU!) who are looking forward to a HELLRAISER remake. Clive Barker talked to Quint over at AintItCoolNews about the status of the project (which he gives his blessing and would be actively involved with), and it appears that there’s no immediate movement on getting ‘ol Pinhead in front of the cameras (in non-sequel form).
That’s a tough one, because the answer is I don’t know (if it’s happening). I have waited for a long time to see somebody give me a clue. You know, “Are we doing this or are we not doing this?” “Is it happening or is it not happening?” Nobody seems to know and I’m not going to hold my breath while I wait, because it’s frustrating. I’m very lucky, I’ve got control over a lot of my artistic life. I’ve got control over my movies. I’ve got control over my books. I’m sorry, I don’t have control over my movies, but I do have control of my paintings and of my books. My movies… no… I don’t. I have, on a good day, a little bit of control. On a bad day I don’t really have any at all and I’m trying to figure out a way to make movies for myself that are cheap to make, so I don’t have to rely upon other people… I don’t have to rely upon other people’s funding and other people’s creative whims.
Sounds like a man frustrated with the process of being dicked around by Hollywood. What’s amazing to me is we have, I don’t know, about EIGHT f*cking HELLRAISER sequels crowding DVD shelves and the Sci-Fi channel’s late-night schedule, yet this thing can’t get off the ground? I understand it’s most likely legal bullshite holding up the works, but you’d think everyone would stop crapping around, look at each other quizzically before declaring, “Hey don’t we like money? Why aren’t we making this again? Give me the phone, get a director of Hilary Duff videos on the line!”
