Helstrom plots revealed: Hulu shares synopses for 5 episodes of Marvel show

The ten episode first season of the Marvel Comics-inspired series Helstrom will be available to watch on the Hulu streaming service as of October 16th, and a month ahead of the show's premiere Hulu has shared synopses for five of the ten episodes.

Tom Austen and Sydney Lemmon star in the series as Daimon and Ana Helstrom,

the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer. The siblings have a complicated dynamic as they track down the worst of humanity — each with their attitude and skills.

Here's what Daimon and Ana will be getting up to in the first half of the season:

Episode 1: Mother's Little Helpers: Daimon Helstrom investigates a possessed young boy in Oregon. Meanwhile in San Francisco, Ana Helstrom stages an auction to expose a criminal. Disturbing events at St. Teresa's cause concern as the siblings' estranged Mother remains hospitalized. Written By: Paul Zbyszewski. Directed By: Daina Reed

Episode 2: Viaticum: A horrific accident leaves Daimon and Gabriella fighting to save a man's soul, while a darker force attempts to stop them. Meanwhile, Yen's relationship with his work takes a dark turn towards obsession, and a discovery leads Ana back to St. Teresa's. Written By: Blair Butler. Directed By: Anders Engstrom

Episode 3: The One Who Got Away: Daimon and Ana learn more about the destruction their father left in his wake. With Gabriella, they pay a visit to a potential victim and find themselves in deeper than they ever could have imagined. Hastings shocks Caretaker with a stunning revelation. Written By: Marcus Dalzine. Directed By: Michael Offer

Episode 4: Containment: A demonic enemy brings together an unusual group. Daimon and Ana travel to San Francisco in search of Yen and an artifact that may help defeat the enemy. Ana tells Daimon about her extracurricular activities, and Gabriella's faith is attacked. Written By: Sheila Wilson. Directed By: Amanda Row

Episode 5: Committed: Things are not what they seem as Mother's health sharply declines. As Ana searches for Yen, Gabriella offers counsel to a student struggling to understand how demons live among us. Daimon makes a discovery that is truly a matter of life and death. Written By: Matt Morgan & Ian Sobel. Directed By: Jovanka Vuckovic

Austen and Lemmon are joined in the cast by joined in the cast by Elizabeth Marvel as Victoria Helstrom, "Plagued by demons both real and imagined, Victoria has been institutionalized for 20 years. While she struggles to be herself, she hopes to repair her relationship with her children"; Robert Wisdom as Caretaker, "a guardian of knowledge of the occult. He uses his knowledge and his relationship with Ana to help keep demonic forces at bay"; June Carryl as Dr. Louise Hastings, "a psychologist with a strong faith but an open mind. Hastings is head of the psychiatric hospital where Victoria is being monitored. She has watched over the Helstrom family for years, caring for them as best she can"; Ariana Guerra as Gabriella Rossetti, "a woman balancing logic and faith. Gabriella arrives from the Vatican to help Daimon and Hastings uncover cases of demonic possession. She wants to save everyone she can, including Daimon"; Daniel Cudmore as Keith Spivey, "a nurse at St. Teresa’s, where Daimon and Ana’s mother, Victoria, has been institutionalized for the last 20 years";  David Meunier as Finn Miller, "part of a secret organization that handles work not for the faint of heart"; and Alain Uy as Chris Yen, "Ana's business partner and her closest friend — some would say surrogate brother. He carries out the bulk of the auction house's responsibilities and assists Ana with whatever she needs."

The series is a co-production between Marvel Television and ABC Signature Studios, and is executive produced by Jeph Loeb and Paul Zbyszewski.

Helstrom looks like it's going to be an interesting, dark ride, and I'm intrigued by the presence of characters from Marvel comics like Darkhold and Ghost Rider (assuming the Caretaker here is based on the Caretaker from Ghost Rider). I look forward to checking it out.
