Nearly everyone knows the face and music of legendary axeman Jimi Hendrix, but the “character” of the iconic six-string slinger is rarely seen.
The new indie project SLIDE takes a fictionalized look at the guitar god’s “lost weekend” in the 1960s, and drops him in the middle of a kidnapping caper. The story involves “two gangsters, desperately trying to get away from a mob boss they double-crossed, who inadvertently kidnap Hendrix, then at the height of his career and drug addiction. Along the way, Hendrix ends up teaching one of the gangsters about honesty, and Hendrix learns to clean up his act.”
The movie comes from filmmaker/author J.H. Greene (who recently wrote the book “Incarnadine: The True Memoirs of Count Dracula”) and since it’s a fabrication and won’t feature Jimi’s tunes or family, no rights need to be cleared. The project is being produced by Carol Lewis and Don Murphy (TRANSFORMERS, SHOOT ‘EM UP).
An actual biopic about the influential musician remains held up by the Hendrix estate.
