Here comes The Hobbit casting!

Now that Peter Jackson is finally (finally!!) moving forward on the new movies based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved book THE HOBBIT, we’re getting names of some humans who will occupy the roles of various Middle Earth denizens.

As rumored, Martin Freeman (“The Office”, THE HITCHHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY) is stepping into the hairy feet of diminutive adventurer Bilbo Baggins. Jackson said: “There are a few times in your career when you come across an actor who you know was born to play a role, but that was the case as soon as I met Martin. He is intelligent, funny, surprising and brave — exactly like Bilbo and I feel incredibly proud to be able to announce that he is our Hobbit.”

Now Deadline has a long list of other actors involved and their characters:

-Thorin Oakenshield : Richard Armitage (“MI-5”, upcoming CAPTAIN AMERICA)

-Kili : Aidan Turner (“Being Human”)

-Fili : Rob Kazinsky (“EastEnders”)

-Dwalin : Graham McTavish (SECRETARIAT, RAMBO)

-Oin : John Callen (“Power Rangers Jungle Fury”) (???)

-Bombur : Stephen Hunter (“All Saints”)

-Dori : Mark Hadlow (KING KONG)

-Gloin : Peter Hambleton (“The Strip”)

Deadline points out that they’re still talking with Ian McKellan, Andy Serkis, Stephen Fry, Saoirse Ronan, Aiden Turner and Bill Nighy (to voice Smaug the dragon). So we’re just getting started…
