This is not the first time that we have seen a portrayal of Nelson Mandela on film. If you recall, Morgan Freeman took on the role in 2009s INVICTUS. Now it’s Idris Elba‘s turn to take a swing at filling the shoes of a younger version of the former South African president in MANDELA: LONG WALK TO FREEDOM.

The first teaser gives us a beautiful aerial shot of Elba walking a path with several children running around him. Elba narrates as Mandela, “I have walked a long walk to freedom. It has been a lonely road, and it is not over yet.” He sounds terrific, and this makes me more curious about his performance. Maybe it will get him an Oscar nod. The actor certainly deserves the recognition.

Check out the teaser below. I’ve also included a couple of the posters from the flick, you can check out the rest in our posters section.

Synopsis: A chronicle of Nelson Mandela’s life journey from his childhood in a rural village through to his inauguration as the first democratically elected president of South Africa.

MANDELA: LONG WALK TO FREEDOM starring Idris Elba and Naomie Harris hits theaters November 9, 2013.
