Here’s the skinny on Johnny Depp’s remake of The Thin Man

JoBloJoBlo

Once he’s done getting ghoulish with his update of DARK SHADOWS, Johnny Depp wants to (slightly) lighten things up with a new version of THE THIN MAN.

Depp and Warner Bros. have novelist/screenwriter Jerry Stahl (PERMANENT MIDNIGHT) now working on the update. Like the Oscar-nominated classic featuring William Powell and Myrna Loy, it will be based on the book by pulp mystery master Dashiell Hammett, but will also reportedly include elements of the non-Hammett movie sequels.

Stahl was on the list of possiblities when the project was announced months ago, alogn with Terry Rossio (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN) and Christopher McQuarrie (THE USUAL SUSPECTS).

The story follows a sharp-tongued, martini-swilling private eye and his lady as they investigate a murder plot involving the slender gentleman of the title.

Depp’s ON STRANGER TIDES director Rob Marshall is currently attached to make new noir that will be fun in all the ways THE TOURIST wasn’t (let’s hope).
