Here’s your first taste of Bear McCreary’s score for Child’s Play

Lar Klevberg and MGM's upcoming remake of Tom Holland and Don Mancini's CHILD'S PLAY is headed our way this summer with Mark Hamill as the voice of new Chucky. And today we have word that Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning composer Bear McCreary (THE WALKING DEAD, HAPPY DEATH DAY, 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE) has been brought on to score the reimagining. You can hear a sample of the score below which I'm already digging the hell out of. Now let's hear the whole thing, MGM!

McCreary said:

Chucky haunted my dreams when I was a kid, ever since his devilish little face peered out at me from a torn VHS cover at my local video store. Now, thirty years later, I have a remarkable opportunity to contribute to his musical legacy. Inspired by the Chucky’s toy-store origins, I’ve assembled a ‘toy orchestra,’ of toy pianos, hurdy-gurdies, accordions, plastic guitars, and otamatones, that will be featured prominently in the score. I hope that these creepy, unique tones will help terrify the next generation of ‘Child’s Play’ fans!

KatzSmith’s Aaron Schmidt added:

Bear comes with boundless ideas and energy, and his approach to this score has been incredible to witness. He’s developed themes and melodies that underscore our horror, our emotion, and our AI concept while combining unique instruments and toys from around the world with his orchestral score. He’s elevated every moment of the film he’s touched.

The upcoming remake's official synopsis reads:

A mother (Plaza) gives her son (Bateman) a toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature.

The remake is directed by Lars Klevberg (POLAROID) from a screenplay written by KUNG FURY 2 writer Tyler Burton Smith with STEPHEN KING'S IT producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith producing. Aaron Schmidt and Chris Ferguson executive produced. Aubrey Plaza stars as Andy's Mom, along with Brian Tyree Henry as Mike, Gabriel Bateman (LIGHTS OUT) as Andy, and Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky. Beatrice Kitsos, Ty Consiglio, and Carlease Burke co-star. CHILD'S PLAY stalks and slashes its tiny terrifying ass into your local multiplex come June 21, 2019.
