It seems that Mr. Michael Shannon (right) is having himself a pretty good year so far. First off, the dude is nominated for an Oscar for his supporting role in the Kate Winslet flick REVOLUTIONARY ROAD. Apparently he plays a crazy person, which sounds pretty cool. I actually didn’t even know this, but Mr. Shannon had dipped his feet a couple of times in our genre with BUG and DEAD BIRDS.
And now, Entertainment Weekly is reporting that he just signed on for the lead in a brand new horror flick for director Werner Herzog and executive producer David Lynch! The flick’s mouthful of a title is MY SON, MY SON, WHAT HAVE YE DONE and it tells the strange story of a San Diego man (Shannon) who acts out a Sophocles play in his mind and kills his mother with a sword.
Weird, huh? But considering all involved, I bet it adds up to something very cool and different. The script was written by Herzog and Herbert Golder. It has also been rumored that MY SON will co-star Udo Kier and Willem Dafoe. I’ll have to wait and see what more develops as time goes by. Shooting is expected to begin soon in Peru.
