A while ago, Eric told you all about a splatter-iffic flick called THE HILLS RUN RED from director Dave Parker (THE DEAD HATE THE LIVING) that had just commenced production. That was all the way back in March of 2007. And now, over a year later, we finally have some pick-up news.
It appears that Warner Bros is now the new home for THE HILLS RUN RED. Warner Bros? Really? I thought they were through with genre fare after stupidly (in my opinion) cutting loose TRICK ’R TREAT (which I just mentioned here). Is Warner Bros trying to make amends? I honestly don’t know, but I am glad they’re giving THE HILLS a shot. It really has a bloody good premise. Check it:
Harkening back to ’80s body count slasher fare, the flick follows a group of young filmmakers trying to unlock the mysteries of a nefarious grindhouse movie entitled “The Hills Run Red” and its director. For help, they enlist the film’s only surviving cast member to take them through its remote backwoods locations. While looking into it, they discover it was in fact the real deal, and they’re unfortunately going to figure prominently in the follow-up. Some good, old-fashioned axing ensues!
Sounds perfect to me! How about you? Well, we’ll both be getting a chance to see for ourselves soon. Principle photography should be set to begin in the coming months with casting already underway. THE HILLS is most likely going to bow on DVD, probably under the studio’s Warner Premiere label. Unless of course they decide to f*ck it over TRICK ’R TREAT-style. Only time will tell.
