Honeydew: Steven Spielberg’s son and mystery actor star in March release

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Dark Star Pictures is teaming up with our friends at Bloody-Disgusting to give writer/director Devereux Milburn's feature debut HONEYDEW a March 2021 theatrical release, with a VOD, Digital, and DVD release to follow in April.

Described as a "backwoods horror" movie, HONEYDEW is drawing attention with the fact that it stars Steven Spielberg's son Sawyer Spielberg, and also has a "mystery actor" in the cast who is apparently quite well known. Also starring Malin Barr and Barbara Kingsley, the film centers on

a young couple (played by Spielberg and Barr) who are forced to seek shelter in the home of an aging farmer (Kingsley) and her peculiar son, when they suddenly begin having strange cravings and hallucinations taking them down a rabbit hole of the bizarre.

Dark Star Pictures President Michael Repsch says Milburn has "expertly crafted a macabre vision oozing with style".

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Milburn said an unknown was originally cast in the role played by the "mystery actor", but they had to drop out. He wasn't sure the role was right for "someone with a high public profile", but the actor was enthusiastic to play a part that is "outside what she is known for". He said,

She was game to do whatever, and was the most accessible and most easy-going about being put in that character. It's not exactly a character everyone would be willing [to play]. Especially someone with the resume she has."

Sawyer Spielberg added,

I remember looking up and seeing [the mystery actor] and just thinking to myself, 'How did I get here?' I think I was just as shocked as everyone else was who saw the movie, in that moment."

They're doing a good job of building up that mystery, I'm very curious to see who this actor is.
