Horror for P.T. Anderson?

Here’s something beyond wonderful. I don’t know if it will end up happening – it’s still a rumor right now – but if it shakes out to be the truth… my lord, prepare to be in heaven, movie fans.

Bloody Disgusting, a trustworthy source, is claiming they’ve got reliable word that Paul Thomas Anderson – recently a recipient of a boatload of Oscar nominations for his amazing THERE WILL BE BLOOD – is looking at our favorite genre for his next film. That’s right, the man behind BOOGIE NIGHTS and MAGNOLIA apparently wants to delve into horror – and sweet merciful crap do I ever want that to be true.

Keep in mind this is very premature. There’s no real info given, only that Bloody’s insider on this is “well-trusted,” and I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt for the moment, just because the idea tickles me so. It doesn’t seem like they’d put themselves out there with a tidbit like this for no good reason.

We usually don’t beat the drum for movies that aren’t genre pieces or awesome action flicks, but THERE WILL BE BLOOD is a film I urge everyone to see. It’s a period drama, if you have to classify it, but it’s also morbid, eerie, and grippingly intense. Those are qualities I think we all appreciate. It also just scored 8 Academy Award nominations, so it’s got that prestige thing going for it.
