It’s Oscar time- more of a popularity contest than rewarding outstanding films and filmmakers. So who gives a rat’s ass about the Oscar when the nominees for The 31ST Annual Saturn Awards from THE ACADEMY OF SCIENCE FICTION FANTASY AND HORROR FILMS are out, giving credit where credit’s due.
There’s not one Best Film of the Year, but five categories- each giving props to the best films of that genre. Here’s a list of the nominations for Best Films of the Year:
BEST SCIENCE FICTION FILM:
The Butterfly Effect
The Day After Tomorrow
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
The Forgotten
I, Robot
Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow
BEST FANTASY FILM:
Birth
Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban
Hellboy
House Of Flying Daggers
Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events
Spider-Man 2
BEST HORROR FILM:

Dawn of the Dead
The Grudge
Open Water

Kill Bill: Vol. 2
The Manchurian Candidate

The Phantom Of The Opera
BEST ANIMATED FILM:

Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about! An award show that looks at the entire year of films, not just the last 2 months! ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, and THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT were both snubbed out of the bigger awards because they were released early in the year- not here, baby!
You can check out the entire list of Nominees for all the categories over at the official website by clicking HERE. The award show takes place May 3rd.
