Go beyond Judgment Day with new Terminator: Dark Fate trailer and poster

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

August 29, 1997 was supposed to be Judgment Day, with a nuclear apocalypse kicking off a war between machines and humans. Thanks to actions carried out by Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), her son John (Edward Furlong), and a cyborg Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) that was programmed to help them, Judgment Day didn't happen. But later this year, Sarah and another Terminator will be back in action for TERMINATOR: DARK FATE.

To mark the twenty-second anniversary of Judgment Day coming and going without any nukes being dropped, a batch of "Happy Judgment Day" clips from TERMINATOR: DARK FATE were released online yesterday, each one ending with the words "Today is Judgment Day, tomorrow we meet our fate." As it turns out, our fate is to watch a brand new trailer for TERMINATOR: DARK FATE. That trailer can be seen below.

TERMINATOR: DARK FATE reunites Hamilton and Schwarzenegger with James Cameron, writer/director of THE TERMINATOR and TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY, who has returned to the franchise to produce the new film. Cameron also worked with David S. Goyer, Justin Rhodes, Charles Eglee, and Josh Friedman to craft the story for the new film. The screenplay was then written by Goyer, Rhodes, and Billy Ray.

Directed by DEADPOOL's Tim Miller, DARK FATE doesn't have a plot synopsis available, but we do know that the film ignores the events of the TERMINATOR movies Cameron wasn't involved with.

Hamilton and Schwarzenegger are joined in the cast by Natalia Reyes as heroine Dani, Mackenzie Davis as machine fighter Grace, Gabriel Luna as a villainous Terminator, Diego Boneta as Dani's brother, and Edward Furlong in "a small role" as John Connor. Brett Azar and Jude Collie were the CGI stand-ins for Schwarzenegger and Furlong in scenes that take place during the time of TERMINATOR 2.

TERMINATOR: DARK FATE arrives in theatres on November 1st.

I didn't like the post-T2 TERMINATOR sequels very much, but I'm willing to give this one a chance to see if Cameron and Miller have redeemed the franchise. The trailer does make it look like fun to me.

A new poster for TERMINATOR: DARK FATE can also be seen below.
