Halloween Kills writer reveals more about the upcoming sequel

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

HALLOWEEN is an interesting series, as it has had more reboots than the BATMAN franchise. Firstly, John Carpenter envisioned the film series as an anthology, with Michael Myers being just one story told, while the sequels would have a completely different cast of characters and stories. In fact, we saw this happen with HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH, which had no connection to Michael Myers or Jamie Lee Curtis' iconic Laurie Strode (and was about curses and Halloween masks that killed children). When III didn't do well at the box-office, however, the producers went back to the more lucrative Michael Myers well from then on. Then, of course, there's the Rob Zombie reboot and sequel (which, while not great, are still better than their reputation), and of course, last year's successful HALLOWEEN reboot that pulled a HIGHLANDER III or TERMINATOR: DARK FATE and asked you to forget all the previous sequels (even retconning Laurie and Michael's familiar connection from HALLOWEEN II).

Now the new HALLOWEEN is getting a sequel – HALLOWEEN KILLS – and the co-writer on the film, Scott Teems (who co-wrote it with Danny McBride and director David Gordon Green), was interviewed by Movieweb to talk about the film, and here's what he had to say:

I am really excited about it. I saw a rough cut of it a few weeks ago, and I'm a little biased, but my gut says that people that like the last one will be very excited about this one. It's like the first one on steroids, I guess. It really is the bigger, badder, meaner version of the first one.

Sounds good to me! And it seems to fall in line with what others have been saying, with James Jude Courtney (who is reprising his role as Michael Myers) saying the sequel is the "first movie on speed". Hopefully the film remembers the fundamentals of what made the first film successful, and not succumb to bloat or excess. Here's hoping!

Meanwhile, HALLOWEEN KILLS is slated for October 26th, 2020, though it will be amazing if it keeps that date.

So, what do you guys think? Fans of the newest reboot of the franchise? And if so, how excited are you for te sequel? Either way, sound off below!
