Hunger Games sequel Catching Fire heats up 3 more names: Sam Clafin, Melissa Leo & Tony Shalhoub

While casting speculation does more than miff, it seems at least one signing is imminent…

Variety is reporting that a trio of names are generating heat for the upcoming HUNGER GAMES sequel CATCHING FIRE. In specific, Sam Claflin, Melissa Leo and Tony Shalhoub are all being eyed to play roles in the film, with Clafin (seen right) closest to closing a deal. If the British actor agrees, he’ll play the long sought after role of Finnick Odair. Don’t front, you’re pumped right?

Not so much? Well, at least you have an Oscar winner and a 3-time Emmy winner to fall back on…that is if Leo and Shalhoub agree to terms. Nothing has been formalized yet, this is simply a public wish list Lionsgate has for the roles of Mags and Beetee.

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

With Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks (below), Woody Harrelson and Donald Sutherland all returning for the sequel – CATCHING FIRE spreads November 22, 2013.
