The Arrow
interview
s
Stephanie Beaton

Stephanie
Beaton was born in Alliance, a small town in Ohio. She always dreamt of
being an actress but living in Ohio and all (not many casting calls out
there), she decided to become a vet instead. Luckily for us, the
“dream” was too strong and she eventually moved to California,
took drama courses and in 1992 got her big break in “Unnaturally
Born Killers”.

Many projects have since followed: “Teen
Witches”, “Witchcraft IX: Bitter Flesh”, an uncredited
appearance in the Paul Newman pot-boiler “Twilight”,
“Witchcraft X” and XI: The Weird Sister and more recently
“Evil Maker”. Stephanie is a very busy bee (having her own
production company Silver Moon Productions must take away lots of her
time) but was kind enough to give a little bit of herself to The Arrow.
This is how it went down…

1- What’s your favorite horror movie and why?

This question is hard for me to answer because there are so many. I guess my favorite from
when I was a kid is “Phantasm”. I loved the blood coming out of the guy’s forehead! That was soooooo cool. And the
gnomes under the bed scared me to death to sleep at night. The two other ones I like are “The Shining” and
“Pumkinhead”!

2- Of all the parts you have played, which one is closest to your heart and why?

Most of the films I’ve done are horror based. I haven’t done a real
heart felt film. Although, I do want to do a few. But the best film I’ve worked on by far was “The
Evilmaker”. It had a great cast, great crew, director, etc… And the story line for that was
brilliant!

3- What’s your view on the horror comeback? (“Scream” and all)

I think it’s GREAT! I am glad horror is back BIG time but also disappointed by how they make cheesy horror films like “Scream”, “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, etc… I think it’s more about who they cast in the roles instead of making true horror.

4- Is there a director or actor you would love to work with?

Demi Moore. I always have loved her work! Al Pacino is great too! I loved
the “Devil’s Advocate”. And of course who wouldn’t want to work or do a Stephen King tale!

5- What about you, any aspirations to write or direct?

Yes, actually, I have re-started my production company back up again. It’s Silver Moon Productions…. I am writing a few scripts as we speak.
One is completed, “The Bagman” and looking to shoot it this summer. Location and where is still unknown at this time. We were planning on Oregon, but things do change. The other script I am
working on is up in the air right now. I am waiting for the final say- so from a person to say, “Go for it, write
it”. If they decide that they don’t want it, I am writing it anyways, changing it around a bit and naming it another name. The story is too good to let sit or forget about.

6- Are we gonna see you soon? Any new projects?

I have a few things coming. Few things that were supposed to come also but well, this is Hollywood and things are sometimes just words. But I am still working on my TV show,
“Blackie’s Widow”. It was originally supposed to air on the new Network, The B-Movie Channel, but since their delays, I am
looking into taking it elsewhere ASAP! I am writing, hosting and producing
it, along with Ron Ford who is also writing, producing and directing it.

As for films, well, I may possibly be working with Ron Ford again in a film called “Cockroach”!!! 😉
That’s the tentative name right now. I will be shooting yet another Witchcraft film. Yes, another one that I’ve been in. #12 now…. #11 is set for release soon. I may possibly be doing another film for Vista Street called “Mafia Wives Club”.
That’s when they are ready to shoot it.

I will be headed back to Minneapolis to shoot the third installment of the Ike and Mike tale in “Tortured Soul 2000″….. I play a serial killer. That’s right up my alley there! I have another film in the making to shoot in New Hampshire in the fall.
Let’s see, I can’t think anymore. Oh yeah, I am STILL writing for the magazine “Autograph News”. I have my Q@A column there and write interviews on people!
It’s great. In fact, I won the 1999 Silver Pen Award for writing.

7- What was the most challenging part that you’ve had to play as an
actress?

That was probably when I had to portray a lesbian! Hahahaha… In “Open wide”, I had to suck a chick’s fingers in front of an ice cream stand! It was funny. Neither one of us is
bi-sexual and it was weird. It was funny. “Open Wide” is a film about the under world of the
porn industry. I played Jessica Grabbit. It is a comedy, completely different
than the horror genre! You can find that one at the Sundance Film Festival.

8- Tell me about your new TV show. What’s it about? Where is it on…etc.

As I mentioned earlier, the show is called “Blackie’s Widow” and I am hosting, writing, and producing it. It was supposed to air on the new network, The B-Movie Channel, but thru their fault, not mine, it’s not aired yet. They planned on starting their special programs other
than their typical films that they are showing in March but they are late in getting around to it. I am looking as we speak in traveling on with it.

But I
play Erica Nid or Blackie. I accidentally stab my late husband, Jameson, with a kitchen
knife that he fell upon. I have a butler named Claude, played by Ron Ford who is also producing, and directing an writing it as well. Claude and I don’t get along to well, but we manage. Every week I bring in a new date
or boyfriend and force him to watch the film we are showing that night. Throughout the film, I plot his death and I DO always kill him. Claude disposes of the body and steals their wallets! Sometimes I have to feed them to my pet spider, Miss
Muffet! Hahaha…it’s GREAT!

I’ve been
working on this project since March of 1999. I’ve been dealing solely with
the BMC Channel and now I think it’s time to move on with it. The BMC Channel officially launched in December of 1999.

9- This is the deep question: Since the current slate of “school” shootings, violent movies or books (Matrix, American Psycho) have been getting some flack. What’s your view on the
subject?. Does violence on-screen contribute to violence in real life?

God NO!!!! I believe that some people are just born nuts or defected! I do not think violence on TV gives people out there ideas. Now there are those who watch it, the crazy ones, and say I would like to try that, but those people are destined to snap anyways. Is the NRA at fault for the guns?
No! It’s not the NRA killing people, it’s the people, the kids, society!

It’s really sad but I think people look for anything to blame. Look at the shooting in North Hollywood and the bank robbery and now the family is suing because they left him
to lay and die! It’s okay to shoot at the police,
shoot at innocent people but lord help ya if you touch my boy, my killer! This world is sick. I would not want to be a cop today. I think I
personally would snap and want to beat and kill a lot of people out there that commit crime. I would be a dirty cop because I am tired of the violence! I
couldn’t do it…. I guess it’s just population control. The more people kill each other, the less we have in this world! 😉

10- What’s the crappiest horror flick you’ve ever seen? Mine is the first
“Ghoulies”.

Honestly, some of the ones I’ve been in! Hahahahaha… There is one I did that was really Cheese! I don’t know,
let’s see……I cannot think of any right now. It’s been a VERY long time since I watched a movie honestly. But Ghoulies was pretty bad.
