James Wan is open to directing another Conjuring Universe movie

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Back in April, we shared a story that said James Wan probably won't direct another Conjuring Universe movie. And wouldn't you just know it, today we have word via Wan himself that (while unlikely) he has learned to never say never to these films. Specifically Wan says:

Listen, I never say no to anything. That’s what I’ve learned.

He continues on to say:

It’s great, but I actually… I love discovering new, young filmmakers, upcoming filmmakers. These movies really allow these filmmakers the opportunity to play in our world.

Fair enough. But this brings up an interesting side note. Wan has returned to direct INSIDIOUS CHAPTER 2 and THE CONJURING 2 but then sat out THE CONJURING 3 and INSIDIOUS CHAPTER 3. Why doesn't he complete a trilogy? Wan explains:

That’s not me. It’s weird, everyone wants me to do the full trilogy thing. I’m like, ‘You’re lucky enough to get me to come back to do the second one,’ A, and B, usually by the time I get to Number 2, I always feel like I’ve said all I need to say and I’m ready to move on. I’m ready to move on to start something new, do something else that excites me. That’s how it’s always been for me.

Again fair enough. Here's hoping that Wan will return to the Conjuring Universe one of these days though. My hope would be for a possible THE CONJURING 4. That would be awesome. But until that day comes, remember that the newest entry in The Conjuring Universe ANNABELLE COMES HOME hits a theater near you tomorrow. Here's the official synopsis:

Determined to keep Annabelle from wreaking more havoc, demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren bring the possessed doll to the locked artifacts room in their home, placing her “safely” behind sacred glass and enlisting a priest’s holy blessing. But an unholy night of horror awaits as Annabelle awakens the evil spirits in the room, who all set their sights on a new target—the Warrens’ ten-year-old daughter, Judy, and her friends.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga have signed on to appear in the new film reprising their THE CONJURING and THE CONJURING 2 roles of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren along with Mckenna Grace as their daughter Judy, Madison Iseman is her babysitter cousin and Katie Sarife (Supernatural, Girl Meets World, Youth & Consequences) as her best friend who gets wrapped up in the evil shenanigans as well. The movie is all set to wreak more havoc within your local multiplex starting TOMORROW. How excited are YOU? Let us know below!
