Jeremy Renner joins Blumhouse’s Spawn reboot as Twitch?

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Looks like Blumhouse's upcoming hard R reboot of SPAWN via writer-director Todd McFarlane has just cast its second lead opposite the recently announced addition of Jamie Foxx as Al Simmon's aka SPAWN. And today we have word (a rumor at this point) that Jeremy Renner (28 WEEKS LATER) will be joining the new film adaptation as the film’s REAL lead, Twitch Williams.

We cannot confirm if Renner has signed on but the site does confirm that he is being considered for the role which is described as:

An honest detective who will team up with Spawn as he seeks vengeance for the murder of his young daughter.

I'm a semi-fan of Renner, who I liked a lot in the sequel to 28 DAYS LATER, but the man has been somewhat of a "meh" actor to me in all of his roles since. Truth be told, I haven't seen WIND RIVER yet and I'm hoping that flick, or this reboot, will change my opinion on the man. We'll see.

The original 1997 film was directed and co-written by Mark A.Z. Dippé from a screenplay written by Alan B. McElroy and begins when:

Covert government assassin Al Simmons (Michael Jai White) is killed after being double-crossed by his boss, Jason Wynn (Martin Sheen). Upon arriving in Hell, Simmons is offered an opportunity to return to Earth if he's willing to lead an evil army. He accepts and is reincarnated as a "Hellspawn" — a twisted, horribly disfigured version of his former self. However, Spawn serves as a force of good, much to the dismay of the Devil's henchman, a wicked clown (John Leguizamo).

The original SPAWN starred Michael Jai White, John Leguizamo, Nicol Williamson, Martin Sheen, Theresa Randle, D. B. Sweeney, Melinda Clarke, and Frank Welker. Thus far we know Foxx and Renner will star in this reboot? Who would you like to see cast next? Let us know below!
