Pet Sematary remake lands Starry Eyes directors!

I know most people tend to be against remakes but I can't help but look forward to Paramount's upcoming remake of Stephen King's PET SEMATARY. I love the original film by Mary Lambert, but I think the film is prime for a "readaptation", shall we say.

Well, it turns out Paramount feels the same way and is moving forward with their planned remake by hiring STARRY EYES directing-duo Dennis Widmyer and Kevin Kolsch to helm this new nightmare.

Several filmmakers tried for the job including Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Andy Muschietti, but Kolsch and Widmyer will take the reins of the script by MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN scribe Jeff Buhler.

The film is being produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, and Steven Schneider, with Alexandra Loewy exec producing.

PET SEMATARY synopsis:

Doctor Louis Creed (Dale Midkiff) moves his family to Maine, where he meets a friendly local named Jud Crandall (Fred Gwynne). After the Creeds' cat is accidentally killed, Crandall advises Louis to bury it in the ground near the old pet cemetery. The cat returns to life, its personality changed for the worse. When Louis' son, Gage (Miko Hughes), dies tragically, Louis decides to bury the boy's body in the same ground despite the warnings of Crandall and Louis' visions of a deceased patient.

We'll let you know when we hear more!

Extra Tidbit: Kolsch and Widmyer also directed the best episode of MTV Scream with S2E10.
